Halloween Activities in Ohio

Ohio is a great place to spend your autumn. The air is crisp, but not cold and the trees are afire with color. There are a number of fun activities available this season as well. I have taken the liberty of compiling a few of my favorites.

Hallo Weekends at Cedar Point

Every weekend in October is full of spook-tacular  fun to go along with the15 rollercoasters at the park. There are haunted houses, outdoor scare zones, Halloween themed shows, and a costume contest for the kids!

Oktoberfest Weekend at the Renaissance Festival

During the second weekend in October you can enjoy a wide selection of beers and ales at the village pubs, give your best toast during the Ode to Ale Toasting Contest, and for the little ones, they can join in a game of Topfschlagen (Hit the Pot) with villagers. This weekend is also the village’s annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

The Circleville Pumpkin Show

A street fair with 7 parades, rides, bands, the Miss Pumkin pageant, and the main event: crowning the largest pumpkin. Touted by many as "The greatest free show on Earth", the pumpkin show begins on the 3rd Wednesday of October, and lasts until that Saturday.

Dent Schoolhouse

Located in Cincinnati Ohio, the Dent Schoolhouse has been named one of America’s scariest haunted houses, and according to them it’s based on a true story. The haunted Dent Schoolhouse was a real schoolhouse that opened in 1894, but some kids apparently disappeared...first a few, then a few more, and it kept going on until people started smelling something strange from the basement. The Dent Schoolhouse is now haunted by the children’s angered spirits, and if you’re “lucky” you’ll even see Charlie the janitor cleaning in the halls and basement.

Adventure Acres

Adventure Acres is one of the newer Halloween attractions  in Ohio. The place is family owned and operated and located in Bellbrook, Ohio on a sprawling sixty two acre property. You will find four extreme corn mazes that are ten feet high in some areas and that stretch on for eight and a half miles.  Some other attractions The farm offers are: your quintessential hayride, a  pumpkin patch, a pirate ship for the little ones to play on, corn cannons, a cow train, and a toddler maze for those not ready to spend the rest of their lives lost in the corn.
