The most obvious part of planning Thanksgiving is determining what time you are going to host and invite those you intend to join you. This is one step that sometimes gets overlooked and planning at the last minute could come back to haunt you. If you were planning on a Thanksgiving for 20 and only 10 people end up being available because of your late invitation, you might wish you had planned sooner. I would say at this point with Thanksgiving being less than a week away, if you haven't already invited your guests you should expect that they may already have other plains. But, still try, and invite them ASAP.
There are some things you can do to prepare your home for company. Even though your guests won't arrive for almost a week, this weekend would be a great time to get a jump start on your home deep cleaning. If you do a very thorough job this weekend you should only need to do lighter cleaning the day before and of Thanksgiving.
Do you have pets or children...or both? You can still deep clean this weekend, but then make sure you stay on top of cleaning the simple things all week. My favorite advice from Jairica on easier cleaning: if you see something needs done and it takes less than a minute to do DON'T WAIT clean it NOW.
If you are planning any craft projects for decor you can get those done ahead of time. We have many suggestions in our craft section such as Turkey Crafts and Autumn Crafts.
There are some food preparations you can get ready ahead of time as well so that you can focus your attention on the best part of the big day- the bird...and family of course. Many desserts can be made ahead of time as well as casserole dishes. We have some lovely pumpkin recipes (both sides and desserts) and will be posting some non-pumpkin recipes in the next week! If you are planning on deep frying your turkey make sure you check out our post on that as well!
